2009 NFL Draft Prospect Preview #14, Percy Harvin WR Florida

Strengths:
Harvin is a natural playmaker who can do anything with the ball in his
hands. He is a deep threat who can take it for six at any time. He has
an amazing combination of deep and lateral speed. Harvin eludes
defenders very well and is a rare yards after catch threat. In the open
field, he runs and has a similar mentality to a running back. He has a
very solid muscular build that has good bulk in his upper body. Because
of his, he can shake defenders who have gotten their hands on him. On
short routes like comebacks or screens, he turns upfield quicly after
securing the ball. Has solid hands, and can catch the ball in traffic.
Weaknesses:
Despite all of his playmaking ability, he should stuggle to adapt to a
pro style offense. He has under-developed route running skills because
of the design of Florida’s offense. He often had plays designed to get
him the ball in space, which won’t be as effective in the NFL. On his
fly routes, he looks unnatural if the corner can run with him and
provide coverage. When he is catching the ball in movement, he can
short arm the ball. His hands are solid, but he won’t always extend his
arms to secure passes. In college, he never saw press coverage. In the
NFL, he will not have the strength or technique to beat the press.
